The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) employs more than 1,900 members statewide - either at headquarters in Tallahassee or in one of seven regional operations centers (ROCs). Services are delivered by five key areas: Executive Direction and Business Support; Investigations and Forensic Science; Florida Capitol Police; Criminal Justice Information Services; and Criminal Justice Professionalism. To promote public safety and strengthen domestic security by providing services in partnership with local, state, and federal criminal justice agencies to prevent, investigate, and solve crimes while protecting Florida citizen's and visitors.


The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is currently advertising to fill an Application Systems Programmer III position within the Information Technology Services division. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.


A bachelor s degree from a college or university and three years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming; or A bachelor s degree from a college or university with a major in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems and two years of experience as described above; or A master s degree from a college or university in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems and one year of experience as described above; or Four years of experience as described above and either (a) completion of a 720-classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or community college in an area of data processing (excluding data entry), or (b) 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college course work from an institution which includes four courses in computer science or management information systems. Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. Completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing (excluding data entry) can substitute for one year of the required experience.


This position performs data processing technical work which includes the following duties:

Planning, implementation, and performance monitoring of telecommunication systems. Network performance monitoring; Security system design, support, and performance monitoring; Planning, designing, and enhancing of statewide wide area, local area, or comparable distributed computer systems networks for use by end-users including the hard and software; Communications components of distributed systems; and Planning, design, support, and performance monitoring of network security systems.


Knowledge of Network Operating Systems; Knowledge of Network Protocols; Knowledge of Network Management Tools; Knowledge of Network Security Principles; and Knowledge of Network Design Principles.


You will be evaluated for this job based on your previous knowledge and experience. Additional reviews may be performed to screen for preferred qualifications, experience and education. Your qualifications will be based on knowledge, skills, and abilities and other elements relevant to this position supported by the information in your application. FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants . Starting salary will be the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy.
