The U. S. District Court for the Southern District is one of the largest district courts among the countrys 94 federal judicial districts. The district courts, combined with the appellate courts and the Supreme Court, make up the judicial branch of the federal government. The Southern District of Texas consists of the following seven divisional offices: Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Galveston, Houston, Laredo, McAllen and Victoria.

We are currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Application Developer. This position will work with various internal customers and be responsible for software development, testing, test automation and execution for software products based on their needs. This position may be housed in any of the divisional offices in the Southern District of Texas.
The Southern District emphasizes quality customer service and rapid application development in a highly collaborative, team-based environment. The ideal applicant will have a high level of creativity, a desire to continually develop skills in current and new technologies, and an ability to learn from, as well as teach colleagues.


Salary Range: CL-27/28, the successful applicant will be placed at the highest grade and step for which they qualify.

The Application Developer:

Works closely with the operational units, Clerks Office and Probation, in implementing technology solutions for the District.Assists in the development and implementation of automation improvement plans for the court, ensuring that changes are implemented with minimal disruption to the court.Designs, develops, and modifies software systems using modern development technologies.Performs testing, establishes operating procedures. Assists in developing specific system features to meet needs of the court. This involves making adaptations to existing systems, participating in planning for and acquiring new systems, and developing custom applications.Develops and installs software and advises the staff on the use of the software.Provides user support.Oversees applications through the full software development life cycle.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, or five years of software programming experience in lieu of degree.3-5 years progressive experience designing, implementing and maintaining software systems that included the completion of software development project assignments involving systems analysis, programming, testing code, systems integration, and information technology.3-5 years of .NET development experience.3-5 years of software development in developing web applications and client/server applications.Hands on experience with .NET technologies, C#, .NET CORE, MVC, and WPF.Experience with SQL Server, Informix databases, and relational databases. Proficient in writing and testing complex SQL statements.Experience with SDLC development methodologies such as SCRUM and Agile.Demonstrated ability to work on a team and communicate effectively amongst peers, customers, and management.Ability to complete tasks independently with minimal oversight.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience writing and testing code in the latest C#.Experience writing code using VSTO (Visual Studio Tools for Office).Experience writing and testing code in Perl.Experience with Azure DevOps backlogs and Continuous Integration and deployments.Demonstrated ability to identify, diagnose and resolve complex problems.
