JOB SUMMARY:Test and verify engineering standards for long-haul communication software and hardware releases that Charter will use for backbone, regional, and metro optical networks upgrades. Write and design implementation guide documents that specify the configurations that were certified to be implemented in Charter optical networks. Write and design implementation guides used by technicians to provision, manage, and maintain equipment in accordance with Charter Engineering standards. Evaluate new products; work on engagements, systems, and issues from medium to high complexity surrounding optical network planning, configuration, and optimization; develop and document technical standards; and provide tier IV support across organizations. Write and standardize the approved technologies and solutions to be used by the Operation Engineering team and provide support to address escalated technical problems. Collaborate with other Network Engineers to identify and solve technical problems encountered in the field by Operations team members. Report and track feature requests with various vendors and ensure that bugs are managed and resolved in a timely manner. Study and review new available technologies in the industry that meet Charters standards and solve capacity needs and complete feasibility studies on new technologies and grade them for the potential effectiveness in Charters optical networks. Test and certify all new configurations in Charter labs before they are implemented in the field. Validate that all new configurations are backwards compatible with Legacy hardware and meet the necessary architectural requirements and certify the configurations as network standards. Investigate the interoperability of equipment manufactured by different optical vendors, including software releases and optical network protocols in Charter Labs. Collaborate with Operations and Operations Engineering to identify long-term network requirements, help to ensure that forecasting activities identify hardware and software necessary to meet Charters approved standards and plan future optical network upgrades based on business needs. EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Must have 5 years of experience: with the physics of light (Optical Physics) and its use in Optical Transmission Systems; utilizing DWDM Systems, including Transmitter, Receiver, and Modulation Format Concept components; utilizing Optical Signal Flow in transport line system; with Optical Standardizations; and utilizing Network Topology, IP protocols, and OSI model and devices. The actual salary offer may be higher as we carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
