Object-Oriented Programming in Unity

Course Summary

In Unity, you can approach the architecture of your projects in many different ways. Sometimes game objects belong in the same family of code together, and sometimes they share characteristics, but are otherwise unrelated. In this course, we'll take an existing project and add new functionality using object oriented programming. We'll learn how to create new types of GameObjects, including destructible props, using clean and reusable code.

    Inheritance

All of the script components we create in Unity inherit from the class MonoBehaviour. However, we too can write scripts that utilize object oriented inheritance. 8 steps
    • The MonoBehaviour Class 8:04
    • Creating Components with Inheritance 6:25
    • MonoBehaviour Review 5 questions
    • Overriding Methods 6:43
    • Destroying Targets 6:56
    • Calling Overridden Methods 3:51
    • Using Components with Inheritance 9:59
    • Inheritance 5 questions
    • Extra Credit Feeling adventurous? Try creating another type of target prefab of your own design. Perhaps it moves in a different way than the others, or maybe it's worth more points.

    Interfaces

In C#, an interface is a group of related functionality that can be implemented by a class. Interfaces differ from classes in that they cannot have their own instances. When a class uses an interface, it implements the interface. 6 steps

    Review
