Phone Privacy When You Want It - Image 1

The telephone is a great way to keep in touch with friends who are not living close by. You can pick it up just for a short call to say hello and pass on good wishes. You may regard it as an essential piece of security if you live alone. One call if you have a problem and assistance will be on its way. What you don’t want however are unsolicited calls from someone trying to sell you something; it is almost an invasion of your privacy.

Ex Directory

One protection against unwanted calls has always been to have your number registered as ex directory. Any enquiries trying to get number details are therefore denied. It can never be foolproof because you will inevitably give the number to family and friends; indeed, to anyone from whom you are happy to receive a call. While no one may knowingly betray your confidence your hopes of total security are inevitably compromised.

There are many fairly innocent reasons why someone wants to get in touch. People looking for lists of telephone numbers as potential sales leads have plenty to contact without needing to try too hard to get yours.

Call Blocking

However you do not need to go ex directory to put yourself virtually out of reach from people that you have no interest in talking to, whether sales approaches or just unwelcome calls. To stop nuisance phone calls there are systems that can distinguish between numbers that you might want to receive, family and friends obviously, and those you don’t. Anyone ringing you if you decide to join a good system will have a one off vetting procedure to pass. Nothing that will cause offence and it will never be repeated. It should just be a matter of confirming they are a friend and they will get through first time on every future occasion unless they are telling a little white lie. If that is the case you can choose to block their number in the future.

Effective and quick

You should look for a blocking system that works quickly and effectively. The principle is that a number is blocked as soon as it is reported as unwanted. That number is then blocked for everyone that who uses the system. Unwanted calls can be reduced to an absolute minimum very quickly because of this process. There may be the odd one that can get through initially but when it is then blocked it will be blocked for everyone. There is a single community all working towards the same thing.

All sorts of people want to avoid receiving unsolicited calls. You do not have to be elderly and living alone to want to know that when the phone rings it is a friend. If you have just come in from work and just want to relax you are really not going to be interested in an unsolicited sales call.
