Isn’t it quite frustrating when you see a red cross in your network connection icon or when you see an error message while using your internet connection? Getting these problems fixed is not an easy matter as there are many things that can go wrong. However, we’re going to walk you through few simple steps that will help you to troubleshoot broadband connection issues, regardless of whichever ISP you use.
- First you should check the lights on your router/modem. Power, internet (some modem have light for ADSL or upload and download) lights should be steady, they shouldn't be blinking.
- Unplug the power cable of your modem and then wait for20-30 seconds then reconnect your modem. While your modem is restarting you can also restart your computer too. It will delete the older information and your modem will try to connect to your ISP.
- If you are using wireless connection then try to connect with a wire and see if it works. You can also try by disabling and enabling your network connection.
- You can also call up your ISP and ask for their IP address and try to ping their server from your computer. In order to do so you need to go to the command prompt and then type ping and the IP address. If your ping test is successful then it means your internet connection is fine you just need to check the connection between your computer and your modem.
- After doing all these checks if your internet connection still doesn't work then try to reset your modem to its factory default. If you know how to reset then its fine or else always check your modem’s manual. But, don’t reset your modem often, as this may harm your modem and its configuration.
In spite of performing all the above mentioned checks if your internet connection is still down then call up your internet service provider. There may problem from their end.
