I have connected my Note 2 to Laptop (Windows OS), but the OS didn't detect the mobile. Where as the mobile is receiving power from the laptop and says it got connected to Media Device.
I restarted windows as well as the mobile, but of no use. Please suggest.

Great. That worked.
Since your mobile is detecting the USB Connection, please check the Device Manager.
Below are the steps to fix it (If you are using Windows 7)
Step 1: Right click on My Computer and select Properties
Step 2: Select Device Manager
Step 3: Look out for Portable devices and expand it.
Step 4: You will be able to see your mobile listed there with a alert icon (yellow triangel icon with an exclamation in it)
Step 5: Right click on the icon and click Uninstall (Don't worry, you are just uninstalling the driver. It can re-installed once again)
Step 6: On successful uninstalling, the mobile device name gets removed from the list
Step 7: Detach the USB cable and plug-in once again
Step 8: The driver gets installed once again and now your PC detects the mobile
Now you will be able to transfer files between mobile and your laptop as usual.
