A Statement of Work (SOW) is a document, routinely employed in the field of project management, which defines project-specific activities, deliverables and their respective timelines, all of which form a contractual obligation upon the vendor in providing services to the client. The main purpose of a SOW is to define the liabilities, responsibilities and work agreements between clients and service providers. The SOW typically also includes detailed requirements and pricing, with standard regulatory, governance terms & conditions and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for engagement. It is an important, often essential, accompaniment to a Master Services Agreement or Request for Proposal (RFP), thus an integral part of a contract between vendor and client to provide project services.
