If you are looking up web development or app development on a search engine, JavaScript is the term you would come across quite frequently. Given that this programming language has been around for over 20 years now, it would not be an exaggeration to say that JavaScript is an integral part of web pages.

Initially, JavaScript was bound only to frontend engineering. But once its abilities to be used on server end were unravelled, the popularity of JavaScript web application development gained double momentum.

With such a wide array of implementation, JavaScript has now become a preferred programming language for many full stack web developers. This preference would not be at all surprising when you consider the various full stack web development frameworks that are based solely on JavaScript.

I have listed down the pros and cons of the 2 most trending JavaScript frameworks according to full stack developers.

MEAN:

This is one of the most commonly used JavaScript full stack frameworks developing web applications. The letters of its name stand for the initials of the platforms the complete framework is built on.

M stands for MongoDB database system.
E stands for Express which is a lightweight framework used for building web applications in Node.
A stands for AngularJS used for constructing the frontend JavaScript framework of the web application.
N stands for Node.js that serves as the backend JavaScript framework.

Pros: All the platforms used in this framework are really flexible and thus the full stack web developer has a lot of moving space for innovation. Also, AngularJS can help in creating highly dynamic frontend interface.

Cons: So much flexibility comes with some drawbacks though. The full stack developer needs to have a thorough and an in-depth knowledge of JavaScript to be able to work with this framework. Also, it can get highly complex when one tries to work on it with bigger data sets.

Meteor:

This is a framework based on Node.js. It has the ability to enable full stack developers to build a web application as well as a mobile app on JavaScript without having to write an additional code for the same. The Meteor framework can accelerate app development for iOS as well as Android.

Pros: The framework has fast development cycles built-in within its library that in turn offers pre-assembled compatible parts for every layer of the full stack web development. Also, as the frontend is swappable, the full stack developers have the option to use either AngularJS, React, or Blaze.

Cons: The framework is not as flexible and lightweight as ExpressJS. Also, it does not support SQL database systems and can integrate only with MongoDB.

Summing up

The above-mentioned 2 frameworks are considered to be the best for JavaScript web application development by full stack developers. But there are several other JavaScript frameworks like Sail.js, CompoundJS, and Koa that explore several other functionalities of JavaScript for web development. The scope of full stack web development is further enhanced through these frameworks.
