Google and Keywords

Published on 24 April 18
What is a Keyword?

A keyword is a word or text that is typed into a search engine to find information on a certain topic. A combination of words is known as a keyword phrase, being more descriptive than one word.

You see bread is typed into the search engine it comes up with relevant searches that have the word bread used in the web sites content; it is usually highlighted in the search results.

The phrase bread machine recipes will be highlighted in the description the search engine takes from the website. The webmaster uses this phrase on his site to make it visible to Google. When there was a query for bread machine recipes the search engines found those pages that best met the query. Also keywords are used in app promotion and when you buy android app downloads or reviews.

How Google Uses Keywords

Google uses an algorithm a mathematical set of instructions to crawl the Internet to bring you pages that relate to your query using keywords. You type in your search and the spiders crawl the web, link after link looking for the keyword that you typed into the search window.

This is why it is imperative that you have well placed keywords within all of your content. Google needs to see these words to rank the relevance of your content to the searches being typed.

Using Your Keywords Properly

Not just choosing the best keyword phrase for your page or niche but using them in the right way will go far in getting your site or page ranking high.

Keywords need to be placed throughout your page or article as Google searches the entire page for the relevant words or phrases. Placing them in the title is a must, your keyword phrase must be used in the title.

Headings are another place Google will look for keyword use, when using headings, if possible use as many keywords as you can without sounding spammy, keyword use must sound natural, highlight your headings.

I use my keyword in my title, in my first paragraph or second paragraph at the beginning if it does not fit into the first paragraph, and in my last paragraph or at least in my conclusion.

How Many Keywords Should You Use

First rule of using keywords is make sure they read naturally within your content and it is relevant to your topic. It does no one any good if your keyword is bread and your content is about volcano’s there is no connection and Google will not be able to make one either.

The amount of keywords as a rule should fall somewhere in the 1-3% range on each page. As I mentioned there are at least three places that I will make a point of placing my keywords in, if not more.

The use of synonyms instead of repeating the same keyword repeatedly is recommended giving your content and extra bit of Google Love, as Google will see lyrics the same as words, the search engines will not see that as spammy.

Again, I cannot stress this enough, although you want to use your keywords within your content it must at all time sound natural, you will do much better with less keywords than to more and not having them sound as they belong.

As most say, don’t write just to please the search engines and I agree but at the same time if you want your content found the search engines must be able to find it, and they find things through keywords.

They look for relevant words that will explain your content, using the search terms that your potential visitors type into the search box.

By knowing, how Google and keywords go together and their connection, getting your content ranked will be half way there.

I will say this one more time as it is that important, as much as keywords are a must within your content, they must be used in a natural way, they must read well proper grammar must be used at all times and you are better having less than more keywords. Avoid the title of Spammer, use your keywords smart, and they will help you use them carelessly they will hurt you.

It takes a bit of time and experience in using keywords properly; take your time it gets easier as time goes on and your online education progresses.
