Getting a Cheap Domain is Not at All Bad!

One of the biggest dilemmas presented to bloggers and website owners is the cheap domain. The main reason behind this dilemma is whether a cheap domain will help or hurt their business prospects. However, there are many companies, which use this method to launch their business. In order to understand how they managed to pull off the impossible, let us look at the dangers that are usually associated with buying a domain for cheap.
  • Losing visitors to similar domain names - One of the biggest reasons that a domain is sold cheaply is due to a misspelled domain name. Believe it or not, but this practice is extremely prevalent in the online world. Type an extra letter or remove one from your favorite website and you will be directed to a website, which is for sale. However, most people will automatically make corrections and go to the correct website.

  • Buying the domain from a person or a company that is not trustworthy - The second reason for a domain being sold cheaply is that the person or company is unable to use the domain for its original purpose. More often than not, companies and individuals indulge in practices that are not compliant with the SEO rules set by search engines. Hence, they are blacklisted and they end up selling the domain name for a lower amount.

Now that we have understood what the two main issues associated with a cheap domain are, let us look at how this can be avoided.

The first step should be how to pick a domain name. Whenever you pick a domain name, never select only one name. Always select three or four unique names. Additionally, you should have two variations of each of the unique domain names selected beforehand. This will ensure that you get the domain name of your choice.

The second step is to pick the right sellers of a cheap domain. When we talk about buying a domain for cheap, always look for domain resellers. Domain resellers are authorized agents of major domain selling websites. They are allowed to sell the domain to you at a price of their choice. By choosing authorized resellers, you will get sellers whose credentials are verified.

A continuation of the second step is to look at auction sites. These are sites where they auction off domain names. This strategy is actually risky and may or may not pay off. The reason being, there is no verification done on the domain names being sold. Secondly, you can get a cheap domain, provided there is not too much competition for the domain name.

The third step is to check the domain authority of the domain being sold. As shown above, a domain owner who has used wrong SEO practices will be blacklisted. The same goes for the domain. Whenever you are buying a domain for cheap, always check if the domain is blacklisted. Also, check if there are any other issues associated with the domain like duplicate IP addresses etc.

Buying a cheap domain (for example I've found such domains at the Danish "billig domæne UnoEuro") is not all gloom and doom. With a little bit of diligence and shopping around, you can easily buy a good domain for a low cost.
