We are seeking ahighly-skilled Optical Systems Engineer responsible for construction and integration of the state-of-the-art optical and motion control assemblies of ourhigh-throughput DNA sequencer. The engineerwillmonitor productionatsupplier facilities and verify that subassemblies are being builttospecifications, while also contributingtolongtermdevelopment of manufacturing and testing capabilities. This positionwillbe responsible for optical sub-assembly performance during and after the integration process and assistingwithvalidation & verificationworkof completed prototype instruments.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Monitor and critically assess thestatusof sub-assembly and full instrument prototype buildsatexternal vendors' facilities. Candidatewilloccasionally be theonlyAgilent representative physically present at those sites. 2.Participate in design cycle iterations of critical optical, electrical and motion control hardware. 3.Perform bring-upwork, testing and documentation for full instrument builds. 4.Developworkinstructions and key parameter teststoqualify instrument builds. 5.Represent engineering during transfer of instrument buildstooperations. 6.AssistwithV&V experimentsonprototype instruments. 7.Assist lab personnel running instruments ininternaland external user facilities. 8.Design and modeling of optical and optoelectronic systems.

M.S. or higher in Optical Engineering, Physics, Biophysics, or similar disciplines,with4+yearsof relevant experience in an industrial setting;B.S.with6+yearsof industrial experience considered. Experiencewithmicroscopes, microscope-like instruments or molecular biology instrumentation containing optical components is a majorplus. Demonstrated expertise in product development of complex optical assemblies involvingadvancedillumination, mechanical positioning, alignment methods and imaging. Experience writingworkinstructions and understanding of the challenges therein. Abilitytowrite and debug simple programs, particularly for data acquisition & analysis. Must be abletodescribe industry standard tests for imaging optical systems, lasers and cameras. Experience writing and using codetocharacterize and test complex optical assemblies is a majorplus. Understanding of optical engineering software (Zemax / CODE V / OSLO, etc.) workflows and methods and abilitytocritically examine outputstoreview designworkof others. Handsonexperience designing and tolerancing optical parts is a majorplus. Experience deploying motion control andworkingwithprecise positioning systems. Abletoquicklylearnand use standard laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, laser power meters, thermal imaging systems, etc. Experiencewithvendor/supplier management of complex sub-systems or OEM Experience in customer-facing technical roles is aplus.
