Position Summary:
The Program Manager will be part of the Strategy, Portfolio, and Program Management Team at ThermoFisher Scientific. As part of this team you will have Technology Development Management as well as Program Management responsibilities.

The Technology Development Management role will include managing all aspects of the Technology Development pipeline for the Cell Biology Business Unit. Technology Management will focus on maximizing the return on new technology development investments. As part of this role, the Program Manager will have process design and implementation responsibilities and will manage the enterprise resource planning system for the Cell Biology development pipeline. You will define and train the Technology Approval Committee, drive Technology Development Phase Reviews, report on status of the technology development pipeline, ensure data integrity of the system, facilitate data driven decision making, and will work very closely with the Research and Development organization to: ensure we know how resources are applied and track the progress of technology development efforts.

The Program Manager role will include responsibility for leading technology development teams through ThermoFisher Scientific's best practice stage gate Technology Management Process. The Program Manager will ensure the teams follow technology development/program management best practices and will drive program budget adherence and overall project execution. The Program Manager will mentor junior Program Managers in best practice program management through informal and formal means such as schedule reviews, sharing schedule building knowledge, and mentoring on managing difficult team dynamics.

Key Objectives:

Design and implement best practice technology development processes including defining decision making bodies and regular operational mechanisms that track status of technology development initiativesOwns all aspects of managing the enterprise resource planning system for Cell Bio development pipeline including implementation, data integrity, data analysis, and driving decisions from data. Plans in detail and conducts schedule analysis in keeping with the culture at ThermoFisher Scientific. Project Planning to include analysis of primary, secondary, and tertiary critical paths is expected. Use of MS Project or equivalent tools is mandatory for all projects.Estimates resource demand which will accompany schedule analysis to ensure proper staffing of projects and programs. Collects and analyzes portfolio data to highlight where resource supply is not balanced with demand across the technology development portfolio. Mentors junior project/program managers in fundamentals of project and portfolio management.Leads, directs and is responsible for day-to-day aspects, on-time delivery, and risk management of projects and programs.Acts as project champion and project 'general manager'; manages team to execute all project deliverables; leads technology development core team.Manages project budget; tracks actual versus plan and resolves issues as they arise.Reviews team progress against requirements and plans; resolves deviations.Holds team members and functions accountable for on-time execution of project deliverables escalating issues when necessary to provide core team members with needed support.Provides training and constructive input to core team members.Provides clear, concise information and reports to all levels of the project team and executive management.Interacts with peers, functional groups and customers; presents project status and updates to the Technology Approval Committee.

Minimum Qualifications:

BS degree in scientific field or business administration; or equivalent trade-off in related professional work experience.

10+ years of experience in managing projects of varying size and complexity through stage-gate processes, preferably in the life sciences.Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.Outstanding organizational, planning, process development, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skillsExperience working with and effectively communicating (listen, speak, present and write) to all levels of management and building working relationships with others outside of the project team.Must be able to work effectively as a member of the Portfolio and Program Management team and in a Matrix reporting environment.Ability to organize and disseminate information efficiently, and convey expectations of accountability.Strong time management skills, prioritization schemes and willingness to 'take ownership of issues and tasks'.

Preferred Qualifications:

experience in a biological science, particularly experience with cell culture and analysis. Experience developing products in a regulated environment Experience with MicroSoft software, including MS Project. PMP certification
