Conducts and coordinates research related to planetary studies in variety of areas such as empirical and theoretical investigations, experimental observations, experimental laboratory and/or analog field studies. Conducts expert technical reviews of professional studies, research, and analysis, and applies findings in the development of national guidance or directives in areas such as space science. Consults with all levels of Center management, headquarters personnel, other federal agencies, and foreign and commercial organizations in a scientific discipline. Establishes and maintains liaison with HQ program managers. Defines jobs, selects employees, and assigns work; defines technical work requirements and milestones. Evaluates the organization and employee accomplishments by accepting or rejecting work products; and presents and defends organization and employees. Leads and promotes collaborations across the division scientific staff in Division core strategic research areas and instrument and mission concept development. Obtains and manages resources and identifies strategic objectives for the organization. Directs outreach and communication strategies for the branch. Provides employees resources and information that insures a safe and healthy work environment. Recommends employee promotions and recognition; approves leave; implements performance modifications and takes corrective actions as appropriate. Help

In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level providing technical guidance or leadership to teams; experience in program/project management in the field of planetary studies; conducting studies of origin, composition, structure, and/or evolution of the bodies of solar systems.

You must have successfully completed a bachelor's or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, or other field of physical science.
.Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
