The HTC One M8, without a doubt, was one of the most beautiful and stylish phones of 2014. The superb build, the beautiful design and lovely screen made it one of the most innovative and latest smartphones to be launched, but there were some flaws that stood in the way of it being the best of the lot. The HTC One M9, its successor, aims to correct all the problems. In the past few years, the Taiwanese manufacturer has garnered a reputation as makers of excellent build quality and beautiful design. The approach has been so successful that even Apple has developed a phone that’s very similar to the One.
The HTC One M9 and its predecessor are similar in size, but the latest one boasts a newer design and the M9 is a little bit thicker. Brushed, hard and cool aluminum is used in both devices and they feel just amazing. While the Samsung Galaxy S6 has a fancy new metal and glass design and is a lot thinner, a lot of people may opt for the HTC One M9. A two-tone finish has been used by HTC so the front and back of the device are a bit silvery whereas the sides have been given a bronze-gold finish.
While gold often becomes gaudy in most devices, HTC has managed to pull this one off without a hitch. The camera lens of the M9 is square rather than the circular one of the M8. Furthermore, unlike Samsung, HTC hasn’t decided to throw its baby right out of the bathwater so the M9 still has a memory card slot, which is lacking in the Galaxy S6. The internal storage is already 32GB, but you have the option of boosting it if need be. The BoomSound speakers have also made a return and these stereo speakers are simply the best ones around.
They aren’t just extremely loud; these front-facing speakers sound richer than the competition. A small software update has also been made to the speakers. The sound becomes bigger with Movie mode while the Music mode tries to offer a completely natural tone. In the screen war, HTC has chosen to stick with Full HD once again rather than going for the QHD resolution in the LG G4 and Galaxy S6. Even though the pixel density isn’t much when compared to Samsung and LG, it is far greater than the iPhone 6.
Moreover, the natural-looking colors, decent contrast and great viewing angles make the screen excellent. The M9 runs on the Android 5.0 Lollipop, but it is the custom HTC sense that shows the most improvement. Themes are available to you for customizing the feel and look of Sense. The icons and phones of the system can be altered and you can also choose a color scheme. There are some preinstalled themes, but you can also make your own. Thus, the phone does its best to look classy amongst the horde of latest cell phones and it is definitely a second look.
