Data cleansing, data cleaning or data scrubbing is the process of detecting and correcting (or removing) corrupt or inaccurate records from a record set, table, or database. Used mainly in databases, the term refers to identifying incomplete, incorrect, inaccurate, irrelevant, etc. parts of the data and then replacing, modifying, or deleting this dirty data or coarse data.

The process of amending or removing data in a database that is incorrect, incomplete, improperly formatted, or duplicated. An organization in a data-intensive field might use a data scrubbing tool to systematically examine data for flaws.

Data collection is the process of gathering data relevant to the business or project or survey.

In network computing, DCE is an industry-standard software technology for setting up and managing computing and data exchange in a system of distributed computers. 

The deterioration of computer data as a result of some external agent. Hazards to data integrity include not only computer-based problems, but also environmental threats such as power outages, dust, water, and extreme temperatures.

Data Discovery may leverage statistical and data mining.

A data mining practice in which large volumes of data are analyzed seeking any possible relationships between data. 

Data driven decision making is a process of making decisions that can be backed up with verified data. The success of the decision relies upon the quality of data and the effectiveness of its analysis and interpretation.

In cryptography, encryption is the process of encoding messages or information in such a way that only authorized parties can read it. Encryption doesn't prevent hacking but it reduces the likelihood that the hacker will be able to read the data that is encrypted. In an encryption scheme, the message or information, referred to as plaintext, is encrypted using an encryption algorithm, turning it into an unreadable ciphertext.

A widely-used method of data encryption using a private (secret) key that was judged so difficult to break by the U.S. government that it was restricted for exportation to other countries. 

A specialized integrated circuit (IC) that can encrypt outgoing data and decrypt incoming data. Some such devices are intended for half-duplex operation, and others are designed for full-duplex operation.
