Information Technology in Business: The big picture - Image 1

It’s without any doubt technology has helped us move forward in society, and these days it’s not uncommon to see people walking around with their heads in their Smartphones taking advantage of technology. The same goes for businesses though, where technology has advanced so much that it affect how companies operate and make money.

Technology has shaped where businesses sell, how they sell and who they sell to, so let’s take a closer look at the bigger picture and delve down deep into how information technology is taking control of small and large businesses.

Apps in Society

The major advancement we have seen over the past few years is the sheer amount of apps that businesses have been creating in order for customers to be able to easily purchase products or services from a Smartphone as opposed to a web based solution which can cause bugs and issues on some makes and models of phones.

Perhaps one of the biggest talking points is that most of these apps have been created for the user to download free of charge, as the companies realize the long-term prospects that are available for putting in the time and patience in perfecting an Android, iOS or Windows based app. The car industry alone has benefited from such technology by offering free auto insurance apps to customers to be able to check quotes and purchase car insurance policies while on the move.

Technology is Changing Production

Aside from the creation of apps technology is also having a major influence in the way companies are creating their products to sell. Of course, this is where we are talking about robotics and more automated ways of production, from automated assembly lines to computer controlled equipment that can turn around processes much faster and much more accurately than human resources ever could.

You only need to look around at most peoples jobs these days and you will see some form of technology at work, even in manual labour jobs the required use of PDA’s and handheld computers to get customer signatures is ever present, and personal computers and laptops are a part of most businesses in the 21st century.

Technology Has Pushed the Boundaries of Communication

From a marketing point of view the Internet has helped many businesses reach a global audience which they couldn’t do 30 years ago, and even if they could it would cost money and wouldn’t be as effective as technology is today.

Smartphones and email communication has allowed for business to easily contact clients and customers within a few seconds that has made for a more effective and smooth procedure within the administration department of small and large businesses.

With the likes of Google being so dominating in this era it has helped business appear in local search results and helped their websites reach high places for short-tailed and long-tailed keywords, opening up a new door of opportunity that can attract customers that at one point in time could never be reached.

All these advancements in technology has just helped increase business awareness, profits and staff numbers. Unemployed people can take advantage of this technological age by adapting new skills and techniques, which really does show the bigger picture ahead of us when it comes to technology.
