5 apps For Poets On The Go.

In the post PC age many writers and poets have chosen the iPad as their go to tablet to access the digital world but you already know that. Needless to say the iPad is nothing with content and ways to create content, there are tons of apps out there for photo editing, music and social media. Here are some great apps (with app store links) to unlock the full potential of your poetry and other forms of creative writing.

#5 Poetreat: This is a great free* app that allows you to create small poems like Hiku in a gorgeous modernist user interface. Keeping the creative process free and clear of clutter makes your poem the main focus while remaining unobtrusive. Additionally poetreat allows its users to save poems within the app, albeit with an in-app purchase. This is not a deal breaker since the app does allow you to keep your poems synced across your IOS devices, in addition to creating unique web addresses for poems in order to sync them with social media.

#4 Rhyme Now: A rhyming dictionary is a great tool for poet and Rhyme Now delivers for just $1.99 for the full version (there is a limited free edition as well). The clean simple interface gets out of the way and allows you to type in a word with closest rhymes colored in green in addition to the division of rhyming words by syllables. There is one key drawback however at the time this review was written the app has not been optimized for IOS 7. This should not take take away from the experience because the app has a very low learning curve and does its job quickly.

#3 Pages: Pages comes in at number 3 not because it is a poetry specific app, it is a great all around word processor. Created by apple it is optimized for IOS 7 and can be yours for Free or $9.99 depending on the device eligibility. Devices activated after September 1, 2013 will have pages for Free, all others get the $9.99 price tag. The good news is this {ages is worth every penny with bevy of features borrowed from the desktop version, cross device syncing, iCloud integration, Dropbox support and the ability to export documents to DOC and PDF formats. Pages is a great friend to the poet on the go, a joy when writing that spoken word piece that you want to edit when you get home on the computer

#2 Instant Poetry: Poets looking for a fun and creative app to fuel their creativity Instant Poetry is a great addition to your iPad or iPhone. For only $1.99 beautiful backgrounds that make your block highlighted poems shine in pop art modern style. Though at the time of writing the review this app as not optimized for IOS 7. Similar to a game the poet would click the plus button and have a group of words from which to choose and drag into their poem. additionally the word themes can be changed (Love, Passion, Sadness) and a background can be added from the photo app or the camera roll. Best of all is the ability to share poetry with friends via Email or Facebook. It is a really simple and tidy app for the poet writing something on the go.

#1 Verses Notebook: From spoken-word to sonnets and sestinas the modern poet looking for a great easy to use app that offers a built in rhyme and synonym search tool, look no further. For $1.99 this high powered notebook and rhyme book that allows you so save your poems and share them on twitter will be a favorite app. The simple and intuitive layout gets in and out of the way with no fuss. Though at this time the app is not optimized for IOS 7 it is an excellent tool that allows the user to sync across devices with iCloud (this is not always seamless). Lastly the lack of facebook integration may turn away some nonetheless Verses Notebook earns the top spot for its poet specific tools, ease of use and value.

All of these apps are great and offer different tools to poets enabling their creativity to be shared with the world. None of these apps however can replace the writer's poetic voice. please remember that an keep writing, sharing and performing poetry.
