Method 1: Recover iPhone Text Messages via iTunes/iCloud Backup

Via iCloud: Go to Settings > iCloud > Backup to make sure that iCloud is enabled. The next step is to go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings on iPhone to restore iPhone to its factory resetting.
