Before moving on to Cloud Hosting, let’s learn what hosting in general is all about. In the world of the web, hosting means a service that enables individuals or companies to post their web page/s or website/s on the internet. How the host helps is they provide all the features and facilities required by the client to be able to have their website viewed on the net.

Here’s how it happens

• The website or webpages are stored or hosted on servers.
• If any end user desires to view your webpage or website, they would type the address in the browser.
• Their computing machine, like desktop or laptop, will connect with your server.
• The webpages or the website will be delivered to their machine via the browser.

With time, several types of hosting solutions made their appearance in the hosting field. Some examples are shared hosting, virtual private server hosting, dedicated hosting, and others. The latest entrant in the market is cloud hosting.

While this concept is relatively new, it has caught on like wildfire in this domain. The concept behind this type of hosting is spreading the resources the client requires to host their site across several web servers to be rendered as per requirement.

What cloud hosting providers India do is that they invest in an extensive network of physical web servers that support virtual servers that the client draws resources from.

Cloud hosting features

Cloud hosting is available as a service and not as a product. Many users compare using this type of hosting with other utility services such as gas or electricity. The client is completely free to take on as many resources as they require, as many times as they need to, only use as much as they need, and pay for just what they use. This eliminates the requirement for buying resources that may lie unutilized.

Many users see cloud computing as an alternative to other types of hosting. Cloud hosting goes a step further than all other types since it draws its resources from a very vast network of servers that could be placed in different data centers at different geographical locations.

Reliability is the biggest benefit of this type of hosting since there is a plethora of servers standing at service for the user at all times. In case one server goes down, there are multiple servers at the ready to take its place. Thus the client is able to cope up with any emergency without breaking into a sweat.

Security too is a manageable concern with cloud hosting. All data centers are housed within safe and secure premises and overseen by manned security. There are very few, if any, chances of unauthorized access or disruption of the servers.

Users are zapped at the magnitude of scalability that cloud hosting provides them. The availability of resources in real time and on an on-demand basis ensures seamless performance. There are no restrictions on the amount of resources required or delivered since the pressure is on a huge network of servers and not a single server which can strain its resources to snapping point.

There are three types of cloud hosting solutions:

Private cloud hosting – in this type, a single company/organization owns an entire Data Center architecture to meet their own needs. This way, they utilize all the benefits of cloud hosting without losing control over anything. There is no public involvement here. This hosting option gives a tremendous amount of automation, monitoring, provisioning, and flexibility to the client.

Public cloud hosting – the greatest example of this type is the internet itself which is used by the service providers to make computing resources available to their clients. It is a pay per use model and the client pays for just what they use, which means there is massive economy of scale. However, this type is not suitable for all organizations, especially those that are dealing with sensitive information.

Hybrid cloud hosting – this is a judicious mix of the other two types. The client can keep control of their internally managed private cloud while utilizing the public one as and when they require doing that. This feature makes this option the favorite of many companies.
