The Internet of Things and its scale in the next three years is a hot topic. From the number of smart devices reaching 30.7 billion in 2020 or global spending hitting $1.29 trillion to a huge 71.6% compound annual growth rate in smart clothing by 2021, there’s a stat and prediction for everything.
But whether these forecasts are accurate or just wild approximations, there’s no denying that the numbers are big. Huge in fact. And the IoT is going to change our lives forever. Here’s an infographic which shows us how the Internet of Things came to be what it is today:

So it’s clear that there are going to be some major shifts in the way that technology is consumed and used in the home. But what are the ways that the Internet of Things can directly impact our lives? Here are some ways that the IoT can change your life for the better:

1. It Will Transform Your Home
Smart technology can bring your home to life. Meaning that everything is convenient and easy to control, no matter where you are. Imagine heating systems that turn on as you are way home from work, kettles that come to boil just as you walk into the kitchen, security systems that can be managed remotely, or lights that can be controlled from the other side of the world. Giving you full administrative power anywhere, anytime. And total peace of mind.
And as appliances get smarter, life will become easier. Fridge/freezers can be programmed to notify you when food items are running out. Gadgets can be activated through voice recognition. And everyday machines like vacuum cleaners will evolve with A.I and robotics.

2. It Will Improve the Workplace

Imagine a workplace where appliances and devices are efficient and effective, downtime is reduced, and things such as monitoring and management are made easier.

Smart technology can help a business run smoothly, improve operations, reduce energy consumption and help companies save money.

3. We Can Manage Our Bodies / Health

There are some incredible health benefits to the Internet of Things. We’ve been able to track certain aspects of our bodies for a while now (eg: step counters, blood pressure, calories and heart rate). But smart tech is about to get a lot more interactive and collaborative.

The ever-increasing number of wearable devices is overwhelming. And soon, we’ll be able to monitor just about everything inside our own bodies. And more importantly, we’ll be able to collate, view and analyse the information in an instant. The data will be right at our fingertips.

4. A Greener Way of Life
Smart technology allows us to gain full control of the machinery and devices in our life. This allows us to live efficiently, save money, reduce wastage and be more environmentally friendly. The Internet of Things can help to promote a greener way of life. And it’s not just around the house either. From saving energy with smart traffic lights on the road to reducing pollution by using data to help us park, the IoT is set to change the world
