The Best of the 21st Century - The Top 5 Greatest Innovations
BEFORE you start complaining that one of the innovations in my list is far inferior, I'd like to remind you that this is my list of innovations. Simply put, I feel that these are awesome and have contributed a great deal of help for all mankind. I just want to point that out first before I start.
We are not yet in the pinnacle of technology; the 21st century, I believe, is just a stepping stone for the greatest of things to come. If you're already amazed with the Iphone, the Google Glass and the many kinds of tablets and smartphones lined up inside a tech store, then don't be. These things are just predecessors, just like the beeper, the walkie-talkie, the CRT television and old transistor radios.
We used to drool over those things back when the Ipod, the Iphone and all those other gadgets were not yet invented. I remember the old Casio Walkman player; my brother owned one and he felt really proud, strutting down the street with his friends with the yellow portable player on his belt. Now, you get a music player, a cellphone, and a beeper in one...and it's called the Iphone.
In any case, here's the list of what I believe the greatest innovations of the 21st century:
The Electric Fireplace - True, it's not as fancy as the Iphone, but the electric fireplace is indeed a very important invention of the 21st century. Back in the day, fires related to carelessness in the fireplace have destroyed homes, lives and property for decades. The electronic fireplace is actually an electric heater that mimics the actual fireplace. One good thing about electric fireplaces is that you don't need to remodel your house, so you can save a lot of money and still get the warmth of a fireplace during the harsh winter. Companies like Eletric Fireplaces Direct install and sells new electric fireplace models.
The Iphone - Yes, the Iphone belongs on fourth place in my list. Why? It's because it's no longer as awesome as it used to be. Back when the Iphone was first introduced to the public, a lot of people were mighty impressed and were ready to dig their pockets for a chance to buy one. Now it's just the same old Iphone BUT with a new number at the end. Iphone 4s anyone?
But still, the Iphone is an awesome innovation; no longer do we have to bring a camera, a portable music player and a mobile phone in our bags, since the Iphone has combined these devices into one awesome smartphone.
Google Android - If there is one thing that makes all other smartphones more efficient that the Iphone, it has to be because of the Google Android. Perhaps one of the most successful and most powerful software for handheld devices, Google Android made the term "smartphones" a possibility. Also, it boasts of a very large community of developers working together to build hundreds or even thousands of applications per year.
And for the record, Google Android has about 200,000 apps. Try to beat that.
LCD Television Sets - When CRT television sets were still popular, there were already plans of building LCD television sets once manufacturing costs fell. When the time came, LCD television sets began popping up like crazy. Sales were very high until LCD television sets surpassed the sales of CRT television sets worldwide in 2007. It makes a whole lot of sense to switch from the old CRT television to an LCD one; the LCD is lighter than the CRT and has good picture quality.
Facebook - If there is one thing that made significant changes to society and to the whole world as a whole, it would have to be Facebook. Ever since Facebook started, the social networking site had undergone major changes to accommodate its ever-growing members list. With Facebook, it is now very easy to connect with your loved ones and your friends who are out of the country. Not only that, Facebook also lets members play games and use different applications.
Truth be told, people don't use the telephone that much anymore; all they have to do is just get online in Facebook and start chatting with their relatives or loved ones right away.
And that's the list of what I think are the greatest innovations of the 21st century. While I believe that there are more things and possibilities to discover as the years go by, I can't help but wonder as to how fast technology is guiding us to the final frontier.
I can't wait for my personal jetpack!
