iPhone Screen Repairs - My Screen's Broken What Next?

If you’re an iPhone owner, there’s a good chance that sooner or later you’ll drop / sit on / squash your phone, resulting in the inevitable cracked screen.

And though iPhones are often still usable with a broken screen, the viewing quality and usability is normally significantly affected.

iPhone repairs are notoriously expensive so if you’ve got a cracked screen and want to have it repaired what are your options?

In store fix

Up until fairly recently, if you had a broken screen your only choice was to find a local repair shop to fix it for you. And as it is quite a specialist job, the price of a repair could vary widely.

Thankfully Apple now offers to repair iPhone 5 screens in store for a set price. However this service isn’t available throughout the country and you might have to travel a distance to find a branch that will fix your phone.

Local repairman

Almost all towns and cities in the country will have a local repairman who specializes in Apple products, so you’ll never have to go too far to find someone to fix your phone.

However, as we’ve already mentioned, the price and quality of these repairs can vary widely, so you should look for a company with a good reputation and ask for recommendations from friends.

Do it yourself kit

As the cost of having your iPhone screen repaired can be a little eye watering, many people have turned to the internet for a cheaper option.

This more affordable solution is normally a ‘do it yourself’ kit which can now be bought from a number of suppliers around the world.

However beware. These kits can also vary hugely in price and often there is very little difference in the quality of the product that you receive.

You also need to check that the kit your order is suitable for your specific phone and comes with all of the required tools that you need to complete the job.

Once you’ve got the kit, working out how to use it can be a struggle. A lot of the magic of the iPhone is contained in the screen, so ensuring that all sensors line up and everything connects as it should is crucial.

However if you are technically minded and have the patience of saint, fixing your screen yourself is definitely the most affordable solution.

Leave it broken

Thanks to the fact that having your screen repaired was so expensive, many young people were forced to leave their phones permanently cracked. And as a result a broken screen has become something of a status symbol signifying that the owner is too laid back or too broke to get their phone mended.

So if your iPhone is still working even with its broken screen and you can survive without crystal clear video and internet surfing why not join the hipsters and leave it cracked?

Warrantees

As with all phone repairs, getting someone apart from the manufacturer to do the work can result in your warranty becoming invalid. So always check with your provider or insurance company before you have any work done.

For many people, their iPhone has become an essential part of everyday life with appointments, meetings and social engagement impossible to manage if it breaks or goes missing.

So if your phone is your personal assistant as well as your best friend treat it with a bit of respect and get that crack mended. Your phone will soon look as good as new, until the next time you drop it that is.
