Blunders to Evade when Buying a Smartphone - Image 1

A lot of people buy smartphones that they end up not liking because they did not make the necessary research and preparations before making their purchase. To avoid committing the same costly mistake, here are some of the things that you should not do when buying a new smartphone:

Buying a Smartphone for the Sake of Owning One

Do you really need to buy a smartphone? Smartphones might be ubiquitous and there may be a number of uses for this device but it does not mean you really have to buy one. Smartphones are expensive devices and availing them with a coverage plan makes using them more costly. It therefore makes sense to ask yourself if you really need a smartphone if you are thinking of buying one. Try to figure out the reason why you need a smartphone. If you are planning to buy a particular smartphone model because of its top of the line camera phone, think again if you already own a good digital camera. Buying a smartphone so you can have your toddler play with it is not also a good idea. Smartphones are too expensive to be made a toy. Buy a less expensive and child friendly toy instead.

Not Knowing the Features that You Need

Different smartphones have different features so make sure you know the features that you need before you even shop around for a new smartphone. This can make it easier for you to filter choices based on smartphone features. If you intend to use your smartphone for placing video calls, for example, you should find a smartphone with back and front facing cameras. Identifying your needs and the features you will likely use in your smartphone can also help you avoid buying the wrong smartphone that does not have the functionalities that you need.

Buying a Smartphone without a Set Budget

Smartphones are expensive so make sure to set a budget if you are buying one. There are basically two ways for you to own a smartphone. One is to buy and pay for it outright and the other is to get it bundled with a phone service plan. You will likely spend more if you are buying a smartphone without availing of a phone service plan but this is a one-time expense and you won’t have to worry about paying for monthly service fees. If you intend to avail of a phone service plan or renew your existing phone plan so you can get your new smartphone for free or for a lower price, see to it that you won’t have to worry about making regular phone service payments for at least the next two years.

Buying a Smartphone without Knowing its Operating System

Different smartphone have different mobile operating systems and how you get the apps for your phone largely depends on the platform it uses. You should therefore see to it that you know a smartphone’s operating system before you buy it. You won’t be able to use apps that are available only on the Apple Apps Store if you have purchased an Android powered phone. It is also best to go for a platform that you are most comfortable with. If you think that the Android platform is too complicated to use, you may have to settle for the iPhone which uses the minimalistic Apple iOS. Although smartphones that use the iOS and the Android platforms are currently the most popular in the market, there are other mobile operating systems other than iOS and Android. There are also the Blackberry OS and Windows Mobile.
