ExtremeTech recently published an article that states the reason the iPhone 5C got its name is because a cheap plastic box will protect it. Having obtained a photograph from WeiPhone, a Chinese website, ExtremeTech reports that while a picture of dozens of plastic boxes could be a sneak peak of what the iPhone 5C would look like, it could also be a hoax.

Similar Designs

The rumor is that the iPhone 5C will actually look a lot like the iPhone 5. The difference is that the iPhone 5 is made of aluminum, rather than the suspected plastic the iPhone 5C will be made of. With rounded edges, the iPhone 5C is supposed to look like a very cheap version of the iPhone 5. Apple will take advantage of the fact that the iPhone 5C will be made of plastic to offer this phone in multiple color choices.

No Contract Phone

ExtremeTech has reported that they suspect that those who purchase an iPhone 5C will not have to sign a contract when they do so. The iPhone 5C is likely to be released into markets where people either cannot or will not spend the money to obtain an iPhone 5S.

According to PhoneArena.com the main reason Apple is releasing the iPhone 5C is to compete with the Nokia Lumia 520, which is a low cost smartphone in the same category as the iPhone 5C in terms of quality and pricing.

GottaBeMobile references a leak made by SimOnlyRadar that states the specifications that apply to the iPhone 5C. The iPhone 5C will reportedly come with a dual core processor, iOS7, a 4-inch retina display and a camera sensor of 8MP. Its storage capacity will reportedly be 1GB worth of RAM and consumers will be able to purchase a 16, 32 or 64GB phone. This new iPhone version is rumored to be slightly thicker than the iPhone 5 is but will reportedly weigh less.

Rumor is that the iPhone 5C will serve as a replacement for either the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 5. Consumers in the U.K. will be happy to know that the iPhone 5C will run -£469 SIM free. Its ultra thin shape will be appealing to U.K. customers as well.
