How to Improve Wireless Network Performance for Your Business

Improving the wireless performance in your workplace is imperative to the success and mobility of your business. While wireless technology is intended to be fast - really fast - there are still a few things than can impede a strong connection. Once you remove these obstacles, you will be amazed by how strong your connection is. Installing a business wireless network is critical because it allows your business to connect with the world, store data, and complete all the daily processes and tasks. Without this connection, productivity can drop and it can be hard to compete in your industry - soon enough your bottom line will be affected. Here is how to improve wireless network performance for your business.

1. Place the modem and router in a centralized location. If you could see the connection stream of a wireless router and modem, you would see lines shooting outward and upward, like a fountain or geyser. When you place the modem and router in a location that isn't centralized, the signal won't have the ideal capacity to move and spread fluidly throughout your place of business. Ideally, you want to find some kind of central utility closet to install your hardware.

2. Make sure that there are no heavy, thick or metallic objects near the modem or router. Some businesses set up the router in a filing room with lots of metal cabinets. What can happen is that the signal becomes trapped. In some instances, the signal may bounce completely off the metal or other objects and become weakened. In order to avoid this, you want to keep the router away from objects that are thick and impervious, such as filing cabinets. Although, you also want to keep the modem and hardware out of rooms that have reinforced steel walls or thick insulation.

3. Install a wireless repeater. If your business is in a location where a signal is hard to pick up, you may want to invest in a wireless repeater - from a company like Sunsight Instruments. When it comes down to it, wireless repeaters can work wonders when it comes to picking up weak signals - they then strengthen the signal and repeat it so that it boosts your connection. These systems are ideal for businesses in more remote locations.

4. Change the channel. Many people don't realize that wireless signals appear on different channels. In some instances, you may be able to simply change the channel. If your router or modem doesn't have channel changing capabilities, you may want to contact your wireless provider to have them change the connection. There is a good chance that the signal you are on is weak for your particular area or region.

5. Make sure there isn't a lot of clutter around your wireless connection. Just like you want to make sure there aren't any heavy or metal items around your hardware, you also want to make sure there isn't a lot of clutter. This is why you probably don't want to place your firmware in a storage room. In the end, the room where you keep your modem and router should be clean and tidy.
