What to Do For the Error - The Word 2013 Stopped Working

The Word document often gets damaged due to media failures, damaged disks and bad sectors and causes considerable data loss for the users of the application. There are many errors, which get displayed due to this.

Solution 1: Changing the default printer

We need to change the default printer using the âDevices and Printersâ window. One can also go the âControl Panelâ and open the applet on âDevices and Printersâ. The right click option will choose the relevant printer and the âSet as Default Printerâ should be chosen. Once this is done, the Word file will open.

Solution 2: Add-ins are disabled and starting Word in the Safe Mode.

Sometimes, this may cause crashing of some Word applications.

What we need to do?

We need to start MS Word in the Safe Mode so that there is no Add-ins, which crashes the application. Next, we need to disable the Add-ins, one after the other to find a probable solution.

The âRun Windowâ is used to start the application in the Safe Mode. We need to type

âWinword.exe /safeâ in the text box which appears.

Next, we go to the File Menu and click the Options. Add-ins is selected in the bottom and then the option Manage Option List is chosen with Com Add-ins. The boxes, which appear are unchecked and OK used for confirming the option. The application is restarted in the normal mode. If the error still persists, then the Add-ins are checked one by one and then the system restarted, till the Add-in which causes the error can detected.

Solution 3: The application is started as an Administrator

Cause: The permission to do a specific task on the computer is required

What we need to do?

For Windows 8, the Home screen needs to be opened and then right clicked and opened as administrator, from the bottom.

Solution 4: Repairing Office 2013

Cause: The file critical for the functioning of the software is damaged, corrupt or may be deleted due to a situation like abrupt shutdown of the system.

What we need to do?

We can use the âAutomatic Repairâ provided by the Microsoft Word 2013. The âPrograms and Featuresâ are selected in the âControl Panelâ. Microsoft Office 2013 is found and âChangeâ button is used. The problem might get fixed by this Automatic Repair option of Microsoft Word 2013.

Solution 5: Uninstallation and reinstallation of the Office 2013 software

Cause: The Uninstallation of Office 2013 is required to wipe out any visible tracks left as a result of the software.

What we need to do?

The Office 2013 Uninstaller can be used for the purpose and not any manual process. Once the uninstallation is completed, then the Office 2013 has to be reinstalled, after the computer is being restarted.
