  • 3D Art with Maya LT

    3D Art with Maya LT

If you are interested in creating 3D assets for games, and have never used 3D creation software before, this is a great place to start. This course explores the 3D art production pipeline as we model, texture, and export a game model into the Unity game engine. We'll be working with Maya, the premiere 3D software package from Autodesk to develop a 3D game model using 2D concept images as a starting point. This course will explore useful polygonal modeling tools to establish the basic form of our prop, applying color and using texture maps to suggest different materials and surface properties. Learn to organize the Maya scene file, and export the final prop into Unity so that it can be integrated into a game. By the end of this course, you will have an arsenal of great modeling tools at your disposal that you can use to create assets based on your own designs.

  • Unity Basics

    Unity Basics

The Unity game engine allows for cross-platform game development through its robust API and intuitive graphical user interface. However, with so many great tools available, it can be overwhelming at first. In this course, you'll get a broad overview of the Unity editor interface and learn how to use tools like the Console, which can help you debug game code when things go wrong. By the end, you'll have a much better understanding of foundational concepts in Unity.

  • Maya Modeling Tools

    Maya Modeling Tools

If you are already familiar with Maya’s interface and basic modeling tools, and are interested in diving deeper into 3D modeling workflow, this is a great course for you. In this class, you will be creating a fairly detailed 3D prop, and exploring many of Maya’s more advanced modeling tools. You will begin by working with curve and surface creation tools, which can offer some excellent advantages over polygon tools for many hard surface modeling challenges. Next, you will convert all of our surfaces to geometry that is compatible with game engines, and make some additional modifications using a few of Maya’s intermediate polygon and deformer tools. Then, you will take advantage of Maya’s advanced duplication tools in order to precisely position and distribute shapes that are repeated multiple times within our prop. And even explore Maya’s basic animation toolset to add some movement to our finished asset. By the time you finish this course, you will have a solid understanding of Maya’s hard surface modeling features, and will be able to use these tools to develop your own game assets.

The fact is that slow load times cause user frustration and you lose users and possibly money. In these lessons we're going to exercise some common real-world examples of how you can make a slow web app perform better using common techniques for front-end optimization. By the end, you will have a better understanding about how web apps work, what causes performance issues and how to best address them.
