I want to move into Data Science field as numbers excite me and want to findout why things happen the way they happen and figure it out mathematically.
What are all the ways I can showcase my expertise in the field of Data Science without working in that role full-time?
How can I find some mini projects in the area of Data Science that I can work on and get a hands-on experience?
Also, are there any industry standard certifications that can help me prove my expertise in the Data Science field?

If you like to work on data science projects and also hope to make your achievements more visible, you might want to check out data science competition platforms such as Kaggle, CrowdAnalytix and CrowdAI. These offer you the opportunity to participate and benchmark your skills against other data science professionals and enthusiasts from all over the world.
There is no single industry standard certification in data science at this point in time, but there are a number of universities and online course providers (such as Coursera, Udacity, etc) that offer either programs or single courses that award you a certificate upon successful completion. Technology companies such as IBM, Microsoft and SAS also have certificate courses for acquiring expertise in their own data science products. All of these are accepted by industry, usually along with some further hands-on experience.
