MS Outlook stores two types of data files PST and OST. Where OST file keeps a user mailbox data of Exchange server. When sync Exchange server with Outlook, an OST is generated. Whereas, PST is the conversion format, which stores Outlook data.
It is easy to open the PST file in Outlook, but in the case of OST, it is impossible. Because Outlook does not recognize an offline/orphaned OST file and shown an error Outlook.ost is not an Outlook data file. Therefore, it becomes necessary to import the OST file into PST first. We have some manual tricks to do this conversion. But first, we will know about OST file.
What is OST file?
OST file is known as Offline Storage Table. An OST file will be created by MS Outlook data when the user is connected with IMAP or Exchange Server. It helps to the user for work offline and when you get online then automatically sync account with the Exchange server. Exchange server holds a copy of a user mailbox in OST file. It helps the user when he wants to open or communicate with the Exchange server. This copy gives the user to data safety&useful environment. It's created when a user sends or received emails, calendar, contact & task. According to the user's work, with every version of Outlook, its capacity has also increased.

Method 1:
First method helps you. when you connected to Exchange server with same Profile.
- Start MS Outlook
- Click on file tab
- Click on Import and Export
- Choose Export to a file then next
- Choose personal folder (.pst) then click next
- Choose your desired folder and mark on Include subfolder then next.
- Browse to save your exported destination and click on finish.
- After finishing, if you want to add password then fill it or OK on this popup.
- Now, you can find a PST file on the selected location.
- Check your destination.
Method 2: This method help to retrieve your emails but not possible your contacts. It will also work when you are connected to the Exchange Server with the same profile.
- Start Microsoft Outlook
- Go to File and then Archive
- A window appears, choose the file or folder to archive it
- Browse your desired location to store the archived PST
- Click on OK,
- The process of archiving will start

Above solution is very simple and easy to process but it must you’re your account is connected to your server with the same profile. Otherwise, this method will not work with your old OST file.
