Posted on: 21 June 19

I am doing BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies)

In the second year now I toke BMS without thinking pier pressure maybe..After my 1 sem I thought BMS is not what I expected and It won't get me job...wanting to switch career I did a quite research and thought I should go in the IT field But how and what exactly So after doing bit more research I thought programming is what I like and what I should do..I thought I should quit BMS and do BCA I can't do CS because I am commerce student After that I talked to some people who currently work in IT industries not specifically programming but They advised me to do my BMS continue it and learn programming side by side...So fast forwarding now I am learning or trying to learn C programming language..can learning programming languages just by myself thro the internet which will not provide any certification can that get me any job and How can I learn programming is their any course that I can do or Is it possible that I can learn by myself thro the internet if yes then where should l learn from or should I quit BMS and go for BCA

There are many fields and career paths in IT industry It would be very helpful for me If you can add some career paths and fields that I can look at and think about

    Hi Riyaz,

Yes, as others have advised, it may be best if you continued your BMS studies and learned a programming language or two on the side. You can teach yourself from online courses, preferably one that will give you a certificate upon completion. As you go along you'll find out more, and be able to develop practice programs and applications as exercises. You could also study about data and object modelling, system analysis, and software design, either online or from books. It would help if you also interact with others in the software field by participating in discussions and by attending meetups that suit you. At some point you could develop and implement a small application (for free, if necessary) for some specific problem in a small business that you may know. The point of this is to pick up additional skills by solving technical issues or additional needs that such an exercise will reveal, and give you more confidence about abilities and where you stand. By then, you will have learned and done enough to write about in a resume. Most of all, you need to network with the right people so that you can learn more, become more aware about the industry, and also market your skills. As it is with any change in course, the journey will depend upon your sustained interest, dedication and perseverance. I'd recommend that you select and approach one of our coaches to help you create a path, form a set of goals and plan how to achieve them.
